This show garden featured at the Gateshead Spring Flower Show 2005. It was a joint venture between
e2 Landscape Architecture (design) and Chameleon Landscaping Services (construction).
The inspiration for the “hot in the city” is urban living, with the small garden or backyard in mind. A secluded space to relax, unwind and enjoy the sunshine, the garden shows how the elegance of large formal gardens can be recreated on a small scale.

Design
The size of the plot called for an uncomplicated design, with careful attention to scale. Design features include the subtle wave effect across the back wall, and the use of complementary landscaping materials. Quality hard-landscaping materials have been specified, chosen for their beauty and durability. Simple but effective planting plan completes the design.

Planting
The planting is reminiscent of the formal garden, with block use of dwarf, evergreen shrubs. The formal theme continues with the use of yew trees and a simple black planter to act as a focal point. The look is softened with ivy to scramble up the wall, and ferns to enjoy its shade. The phormium adds impact, the colour complimenting the early spring colours of the hebe and euphorbia. Finally, bright splashes of colour are introduced using seasonal bulbs; hot orange-red and creamy white.
